2Baba Marks 25 Years in Music with Emotional Tribute
Legendary Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, widely known as 2Baba, has penned a deeply heartfelt open letter to celebrate his 25th anniversary in the music industry, expressing immense gratitude to those who have supported his remarkable journey.
In the letter titled “Open Letter of Gratitude — 2Baba @ 25 Years in the Industry,” the multiple award-winning artist reflected on his growth, his enduring legacy, and the people who believed in him long before the spotlight found him.
“As I stand on the threshold of 25 years in this incredible journey called music, my heart is full of gratitude, memories, lessons, and love,” 2Baba wrote. “This celebration is not mine alone. It belongs to everyone who played a role in shaping the story of Innocent Idibia — 2Baba.”
He went on to acknowledge several influential figures who played key roles in his rise, including Nelson Brown, Baba Keke (Kenny Ogungbe), D1 (Dayo Adeneye), Eddie Lawani, and DJ Jimmy Jatt.
2Baba credited Nelson Brown for discovering and believing in Plantashun Boiz — the iconic trio of 2Baba, Faze, and Blackface — describing him as the first person to “see light in the dream of three young men when no one else believed.”
“You gave us a voice when we barely had a microphone, a space when all we had was a dream,” he recalled.
He also paid tribute to Baba Keke and D1, whom he described as mentors who opened professional doors that changed not only his life but also the course of Nigerian entertainment.
“You opened doors that led us from dreams to destiny. We made history together; we won together. You stood as mentors and big brothers, and your names will forever be etched in my story,” he wrote.
The singer further appreciated Eddie Lawani for offering early platforms that allowed Plantashun Boiz to showcase their talent when opportunities were limited, and DJ Jimmy Jatt for his enduring loyalty and brotherhood throughout his career.

2Baba emphasized that this 25-year milestone is not just about personal success but a celebration of everyone who helped elevate Nigerian music to global recognition.
“Without the people who believed, corrected, and supported me, my story would have been incomplete,” he noted.
From his humble beginnings with Plantashun Boiz in the late 1990s to becoming one of Africa’s most celebrated artists, 2Baba’s career boasts timeless classics such as African Queen, If Love Is a Crime, and For Instance — songs that have shaped the soundscape of modern Afropop.
