Gov Gave Me a Car, They Claimed Married Man – Aniebiet Francis
Aniebiet Francis: “Every Success Comes With a Story — But I Choose Progress Over Pity”
Nollywood filmmaker and Special Assistant on New Media to the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Aniebiet Francis, has spoken candidly about the personal backlash and rumors that have accompanied major achievements in her life and career.
In a heartfelt Facebook post on Wednesday, Aniebiet reflected on the various accusations and assumptions she’s faced over the years — many of them tied to her professional growth and personal milestones.
Recalling the gossip that followed her university days, she wrote:
“Back in school, they said I was sleeping with the people who supported me. When I got my first car — a gift from the then-Governor — the story became that married men had bought it for me.”
She went on to recount other rumors:
“I bought a Lexus, and suddenly, people claimed my boss got it for me because I was his ‘babe.’ When I opened a restaurant, they said it was funded by a lesbian partner. I got a political appointment — they claimed it was through sex. I moved into a new place — they said it was kayanmata.”
Despite the steady stream of allegations, Aniebiet said she’s learned to embrace the pattern:
“Every new level comes with a new lie. Every milestone brings controversy. But I’d rather deal with false stories and keep growing than stay stagnant and be pitied.”
Ending her post on a bold and self-assured note, she added:
“So every morning, I look up and say, ‘Dear God, I am due for a new controversy.’”
