Ayra Starr Fears ‘Mami Water’ Claims Over New Trend

Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has expressed concern that her new ‘Hot Body’ dance trend on social media may attract conspiracy theories.

The Mavin Records star took to her X handle, jokingly warning against accusations that the trend is linked to spiritual or demonic practices.

‘Hot Body’ marks Ayra Starr’s first release under Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. To promote the single, her team launched a trend encouraging young women to dance and showcase confidence while vibing to the track.

However, the movement has drawn criticism, with some accusing the singer of promoting nudity. Veteran singer Jaywon recently questioned her fashion choices, asking if she had parental guidance.

The situation mirrors past controversies faced by her label mate Rema, who in 2023 was accused of using satanic and Illuminati symbols during his sold-out show at London’s O2 Arena. Rema later clarified that the stage props and masks were cultural artifacts, not occult symbols, and in a March 2025 interview with Rolling Stone, he strongly denied being involved in any secret cult.

With the backlash mounting, Ayra Starr appears wary of similar narratives emerging around her, even as ‘Hot Body’ continues to gain momentum online.
