Online backlash sends Wumi Toriola to hospital
Nollywood star Wumi Toriola has landed in the hospital following a wave of backlash on social media.
The actress recently came under fire after openly criticising veteran actor and director Afeez Owo, who is married to fellow actress Mide Martins. Owo had shared his thoughts about one of Wumi’s movie roles during an interview, a remark that didn’t sit well with her. In response, Wumi publicly called him out online.
Her reaction, however, drew heavy condemnation from fans and netizens, many of whom felt Afeez’s observations were valid. The criticism quickly spiraled, leaving Wumi at the center of intense online dragging.
On Thursday morning, the actress revealed that she had been admitted to the hospital. Sharing a photo of herself on a hospital bed, she wrote: “Internet dragging and ICU are siblings.”

In the comment section, Wumi expressed remorse over the controversy, assuring her fans she had learned from the experience. She added: “I’ve heard you all. I’ll do better next time. Please wish me a quick recovery.”
