VI property dispute: Ali Baba evicted
Veteran Nigerian comedian Ali Baba has been evicted from his Victoria Island residence in Lagos, along with his company, XQZMOI TV, following a Federal High Court judgment.
The eviction was carried out after a writ of possession dated August 15, 2025, was issued by the court.
Ali Baba originally purchased the property in 2021 for N220 million from the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), which claimed it was selling the property to recover debts owed by Harold Expansion Industries Nigeria Limited.
However, in a ruling delivered on July 31, 2025, Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa dismissed AMCON’s claim, stating that the corporation failed to provide credible evidence of the alleged debt. The court ordered the property to be restored to its original owner and further awarded N500 million in damages against AMCON.

Ali Baba’s involvement in the dispute stemmed from the timing of his purchase. Reports indicate that the comedian, who had been a tenant of the original owner before AMCON’s intervention, bought the property while the matter was still before the court and despite an existing preservation order.
