Spotify Hails Ayra Starr as Afrobeats’ Top Queen
Spotify has unveiled its ranking of the Top 5 Female Afrobeats Artists of the past year, with Nigerian sensation Ayra Starr leading the pack. The streaming platform described her as “the pop star of Afrobeats,” cementing her status as one of the genre’s brightest global ambassadors.
Grammy winner Tems claimed the second spot, followed by American-Cameroonian hitmaker Libianca at number three. Malian-French singer Aya Nakamura came in fourth, while UK-based Nigerian artist Darkoo rounded out the list at number five.
Notably, South Africa’s Tyla—who has swept multiple major Afrobeats awards in the past year—did not feature on the list, sparking conversation among fans.
