Nigeria Sits Out 2026 Oscars Race
The Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) has announced that no Nigerian film will be submitted for consideration in the International Feature Film (IFF) category of the 2026 Academy Awards.
In a statement released on Monday, NOSC chairperson Stephanie Linus disclosed that the committee opened its call for entries in August and received a total of six films.
However, after deliberations during its weekend meeting, the committee voted by majority to make a “No Submission” decision, effectively ending the process for this awards cycle.

Linus explained the rationale behind the move:
“While Nigerian films have no doubt shown significant improvement and growing awareness of IFF standards, there is still a deficit in creative and technical intentionality that will improve their competitive potential for global awards.”
She added that the NOSC has officially communicated its decision to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
