Seyi Shay: Wizkid Showed Me the Game
Nigerian singer and songwriter Seyi Shay has shared new details about her early working relationship with Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, highlighting how their collaborations evolved into a genuine friendship and creative mentorship.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, the “Irawo” crooner reflected on their strong musical chemistry, which led to several joint projects, including their hit track “Crazy.”
She also revealed that she contributed background vocals to some of Wizkid’s early songs, describing their connection as both professional and deeply personal.
“I did Crazy with Wizkid. I featured him on the song, and he featured me on one of his songs. I also did some background vocals for a couple of his other songs. We became genuine friends,” she recounted.
Seyi Shay praised Wizkid’s exceptional talent, calling him a “creative force” and sharing how his unique recording style left a lasting impression on her.
“He’s incredibly smart and talented. I’ve seen him record while eating, and that was mind-blowing to me. He’s like a magician. I’m heavily attracted to people of extraordinary talent. My spirit connects with people that are inhumanly talented,” she said.
Beyond their time in the studio, the singer revealed that Wizkid often offered her valuable advice on navigating fame and the music industry.

“He used to advise me a lot and tell me how people behave in this industry,” she added.
