BBNaija: Many Stars Struggle After the Show – Adekunle
Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Adekunle Olapade, has voiced his concerns about the growing trend of ex-housemates becoming stranded and financially unstable after leaving the reality TV show.
Taking to his social media handle, Adekunle pointed out that despite BBNaija being the biggest reality TV show in Africa, there is no clear structure or guaranteed success path for participants once the show ends.
“Let me double down and say that BBN is the biggest reality TV show in Africa, but somehow, Nigeria does not have a reality TV culture — there’s almost no certain success path after the show and most of the reality stars suffer for this,” he wrote.
According to him, this lack of post-show structure has left many former housemates struggling financially, as the Nigerian entertainment landscape doesn’t provide sustained support for reality TV alumni.

His post drew mixed reactions from fans online. One follower suggested that contestants should simply return to their primary jobs after the show, to which Adekunle responded that many participants didn’t have stable jobs to return to in the first place.
“A lot of the cast didn’t have 9-5s to begin with — which is why they tried to change their story by going on the show. Only a few had jobs or businesses before they went on the show. But yes, going back if things didn’t work out doesn’t sound like a bad idea,” he explained.
This conversation comes amid growing debate about the long-term impact of BBNaija on its contestants. Recently, activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju raised similar concerns, questioning whether winners actually receive their prizes and alleging that some past winners ended up poorer after the show.
