Ireti Doyle Explains Social Media Break: “Too Toxic for Me”

Veteran Nollywood actress, Ireti Doyle, has expressed regret over the increasingly toxic nature of social media, describing it as unsafe for her peace of mind.

The 58-year-old screen star, who had been noticeably absent from online platforms for months, made a rare appearance on Instagram where she opened up about her decision to step away from social media.

Born on May 3, 1967, in Ondo State, Ireti Doyle spent a significant part of her early life in Boston, United States, before returning to Nigeria. She is a graduate of Theatre Arts from the University of Jos.

Her career began in front of the camera as a producer and presenter, creating and hosting the widely followed fashion and lifestyle programme “Oge with Iretiola” for ten years. She also anchored television programmes such as “Morning Ride” on STV.

Doyle’s breakthrough in acting came in the late 1990s, and she has since built an illustrious career with roles in films like Sitanda (2006), Across the Niger (2009), and Torn (2013).

Her work has earned her multiple accolades, including a Best Supporting Actress award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

Ireti Doyle was previously married to broadcaster Patrick Doyle, with whom she shares children. Their marriage ended in divorce.
