Social Media or Begging Site? Yhemolee Reacts
Nigerian singer and actor, Idowu Adeyemi, popularly known as Yhemolee, has expressed frustration over the growing trend of begging on social media platforms.
In a recent post, the entertainer noted that social media has increasingly become a breeding ground for individuals seeking financial assistance, often from people they barely know.
Yhemolee criticised those who have “mastered the art of begging,” describing them as persistent and strategic in their approach.
“These days, when you post a picture, the first ten comments are account numbers. My major problem is those who have a PhD in begging. Please omit all those begging from my own picture,” he said.
He argued that the only real difference between online beggars and street beggars is access to internet data, adding that the internet is now being misused for begging rather than meaningful engagement.

“It’s no longer news that social media isn’t social media anymore. It’s now a begging site. The only difference is that unlike the beggars on the road, the beggars on the internet have data,” he added.
Yhemolee rose to fame with his hit song “Mon Cheri” featuring Chinko Ekun and Asake, and has since featured in notable Nollywood productions such as Gangs of Lagos and Alakada: Bad and Boujee.
