Yemi Alade Opens Up on Depression After Lying About Age
Nigerian Afrobeats star Yemi Alade has revealed that lying about her age for several years once pushed her into a period of depression.
Speaking in a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo, the award-winning singer admitted that she spent three years claiming to be 22, only to later realise she was actually 25.
According to her, the discovery left her mentally unsettled as she struggled to come to terms with her real age.

“There was a time someone asked me how old I was, and for about three years I kept saying 22. Then one day I calculated it and realised I was already 25,” she said.
“I was depressed for a few days because my mind couldn’t process it. It was mental — for three years I didn’t know my age.”
The “Knack Am” crooner explained that the experience taught her how easily self-deception can affect mental health, describing the episode as both difficult and enlightening.
