Ngozi Nwosu Urges Women to Leave Abusive Relationships

Veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu has revealed that she ended her planned marriage after enduring repeated physical abuse from her ex-partner.

Speaking on Real Life with Aunty Ayo Adesanya, Nwosu recounted one particularly traumatic incident in which her partner dragged her by the hair until she bled, a moment that convinced her to walk away from the relationship just a day before their scheduled wedding.

She explained that despite intense pressure from her family and fiancé to proceed with the marriage, she stood her ground and refused to sign the wedding papers.

“Marriage is not a do-or-die affair,” she said. “When domestic violence becomes unbearable, the best thing to do is walk away. If you tolerate it once, be ready to live with it forever.”

Nwosu recalled how her partner’s violent behavior escalated one day while she was in the kitchen.

“My husband was a violent person. I remember one day he broke down the kitchen door while I was boiling water, dragged me by my hair, and I started bleeding. That day, I don’t know where the strength came from, but I grabbed a pestle to defend myself — I was ready to go to jail. My neighbors even saw me naked,” she recounted.

The actress urged women never to remain in abusive relationships, emphasizing that apologies after violence do not erase the danger.

“Don’t stay with a man who beats you and apologizes later. Once it happens, it will happen again,” she warned.
