Charly Boy reveals Peter Obi’s surprise gift
Veteran entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has shared how former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi surprised him with a symbolic gift packed inside a “Ghana Must Go” bag.
Taking to his X handle, Charly Boy narrated that Obi phoned him around 1 a.m., saying he planned to stop by at 5 a.m. for a courtesy visit. Despite the odd hour, he obliged—and Obi showed up at his home carrying the large bag.
At first, Charly Boy admitted he was curious about the contents, only to discover it was filled not with money, but with an assortment of fruits and traditional items.
“As I come downstairs to meet him, na so I see one big Ghana Must Go by the entrance of my sitting room. I look at the bag, I just dey wonder, wetin fit dey inside?” he wrote in pidgin English.
According to him, the bag contained roasted groundnuts, kolanuts, alligator pepper, pawpaw, oranges, mangoes, bananas, and agara (local delicacy)—all handpicked by Obi himself.
The two reportedly chatted for almost two hours about Nigeria, politics, and family matters before Obi left.
Charly Boy said when he later called to thank him, Obi told him:
