Reekado Banks Admits Leaving Mavin Records Early

Nigerian singer Reekado Banks has confessed that he left the record label that launched his career, Mavin Records, earlier than he perhaps should have.

Banks first rose to fame under Mavin Records, earning the Rookie of the Year award at The Headies 2014 and later winning the sometimes-debated Next Rated award in 2015.

In 2018, he parted ways with the label and established his own imprint, Banks Music.

During a recent chat with reality star Teddy A on the Echoo Room, Banks reflected on his decision to leave, admitting that managing his music career independently made him realize he may have left too soon.

He emphasized that his departure wasn’t the result of any conflict. His contract had ended two years prior, and rather than renewing it, he decided to take a bold leap.

“It wasn’t about a disagreement. I was young and determined to follow my own path—I wanted to leave. My contract was three years, but I stayed on for five without revisiting the terms. When the time came, I thought I was ready to go on my own. Looking back, many would say it was premature, and jumping into it made me realize just how early I made that move,” he explained.
