Sammie Reveals Financial Struggles, Depression After BBNaija

Former Big Brother Naija housemate Samuel Jacob, popularly known as Sammie, has opened up about his struggles with depression and financial challenges following his exit from the reality TV show.

In a heartfelt video shared on Instagram, Sammie revealed that adjusting to life after Big Brother was far from easy. Despite the public perception of fame and success, he said he often cried alone in his Lekki apartment, overwhelmed by the harsh realities of life in Lagos.

He admitted that financial instability deepened his emotional struggles, noting that his bank account often received more debit alerts than credit alerts.

“There was barely money coming in, but I still had a life to maintain. It messed with my head,” he confessed.

Sammie explained that leaving university to join the show disrupted his long-term plans, leaving him uncertain about his future and struggling to live up to the “star boy” image that came with fame.

“I was in Lagos, trying to live up to that celebrity lifestyle, but there was no real income,” he said.

He recalled moments of loneliness and comparison, feeling left behind as others appeared to be succeeding.

“You’d see young guys pulling up in their G-Wagons while I’d be eating indomie in my apartment. I’d dress up nicely, but no one would know what I was going through,” he shared.

Reflecting on his journey, Sammie revealed that he had numerous emotional breakdowns in the year after the show.

“There were so many nights I just sat and cried. A grown man with beards, asking God why. Some days I’d thank Him, other days I’d just break down,” he said.
