Sir Shina Peters: I’ve Got More Classics Than Michael Jackson

Veteran Nigerian Juju musician Oluwashina Akanbi Peters, popularly known as Sir Shina Peters, has described timeless music classics as the greatest legacy any artist can leave behind.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the 67-year-old music legend said that for every true musician, the ultimate goal is to create songs that remain relevant and cherished long after their time in the spotlight.

“The real measure of success in show business is how many evergreen songs you’ve created,” Sir Shina stated. “To my credit, I have four evergreen hits. Even Michael Jackson had just two — Of The World and Thriller. So if I have four, I consider myself fulfilled.”

The Ace crooner expressed pride in his musical accomplishments but lamented the current direction of the Nigerian music industry. According to him, many of today’s artists have drifted away from the high standards and values that he and his contemporaries worked hard to establish.

He said, “Most of the principles and quality we built over the years have been bastardised by the new generation. Things have changed, and not always for the better.”
