Slimcase to Afrobeats Singers: “Drop Less, You’re Getting Boring”

Nigerian singer Slimcase has stirred reactions online after declaring that the Afrobeat sound is starting to feel “boring.”

The artiste shared his thoughts via Instagram Stories, where he expressed concern over the nonstop release of songs by Afrobeat musicians. According to him, the genre is losing its spark because artistes are putting out too much music within short periods.

He advised his colleagues to slow down and take a cue from global stars like Rihanna, who often take breaks to explore other ventures before returning with fresh energy.

“There’s just too much music and too many albums. You all are putting yourselves under unnecessary pressure in this Nigeria,” he wrote. “Relax and do other things—like Rihanna. Come back with a new vibe.”

Slimcase further explained that the oversaturation of music is making the sound repetitive and less exciting. “Your sound is getting boring because there’s too much coming out in one year. I owe my fans just one song this year, and that’s it. Only God is new every morning. These endless singles and albums are gradually killing Afrobeats. It’s not fun anymore,” he said partly in pidgin.
