Split Shocker: Akon’s Wife Files Before 29 Years Mark
Tomeka Thiam, wife of Senegalese-American music star Akon, has filed for divorce just days before what would have been their 29th wedding anniversary.
Court documents filed on Thursday, September 11, 2025, in Fulton County, Georgia, show that Tomeka is seeking a formal dissolution of the marriage on the grounds of irreconcilable differences.

She is also requesting joint legal custody of their 17-year-old daughter, with visitation rights granted to Akon. In addition, Tomeka has asked the court to award her spousal support while denying any such request from the singer.
Tomeka and Akon, who married in September 1996, have shared nearly three decades together before the move to legally end their union.
