Tems Becomes Best-Selling Female African Artist in US
Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has made history as the first female African artist to sell over 10 million units of a single in the United States.
Her global hit, ‘Wait For U’, a collaboration with Future and Drake, recently crossed the milestone, according to chart monitoring platform Chart Data. The track is now eligible for a U.S. RIAA Diamond certification.
Tems becomes the second African artist overall to achieve this feat, after Wizkid, who hit the mark with his collaboration with Drake on ‘One Dance’.

The Love Me Jeje crooner has also cemented her status as the best-selling female African artist in the U.S., with other hits such as Essence, Free Mind, Higher, Me & U, and Found already earning multiple Platinum and Gold certifications.
