Tems Takes Spotify Crown From Tyla
Nigerian music star Tems, born Temilade Openiyi, has overtaken South African singer Tyla to become the African artist with the highest number of monthly listeners on Spotify.
The Love Me Jeje hitmaker recently reached 38.3 million monthly listeners on the streaming platform, narrowly moving ahead of Tyla, who currently stands at 38.2 million listeners.
The milestone follows a surge in streams driven by several recent releases and collaborations, including What You Need (Colour Version), Bounce Road Blues alongside J. Cole and Future, as well as her joint track Raindance with British rapper Dave, which continues to gain strong traction.

With her current momentum, Tems is now closing in on the all-time record for the highest monthly listeners by an African artist — a milestone previously set by Tyla at 40 million.
She also maintains her position as the most-streamed female African artist on the platform, boasting over 4.7 billion streams across all credited works.
