Terry G Reveals Why Many Nigerians Struggle to Succeed
Afrobeats singer Gabriel Oche Amanyi, better known as Terry G, has shared his thoughts on how poor parental upbringing continues to affect many Nigerians well into adulthood.
The “Akpako Master” argued that negative words spoken by parents often leave children battling with low self-esteem, which later contributes to setbacks and failures in life.
Taking to his X account, Terry G explained that many Nigerians unconsciously carry the weight of their childhood experiences into their adult lives.
“Our Nigerian parents really did many of us a strong thing,” he wrote. “When you come under my post saying I’ll never make it, that’s not really you speaking—it’s the voice of what you grew up hearing at home. When you say, ‘you can’t do this, you can’t do that,’ you’re only repeating what your father and mother told you as a child.”
He stressed that the cycle must be broken, urging Nigerians to embrace positivity and rewire their mindset for growth.
“It’s time to break that cycle. It’s time to change that mindset,” Terry G added.
