Why I’d Rather Raise My Kids in Nigeria – M.I Abaga

Nigerian rapper and music executive M.I Abaga has revealed that he would prefer to raise his future children in Nigeria, citing the country’s strong sense of family and community as a major reason.

Speaking in a recent interview, the hip-hop star explained that Nigeria offers a more supportive environment for parenting compared to many Western countries, thanks to its communal lifestyle where relatives often help with childcare.

“There are a lot of things appealing about home, especially because we’re already ingrained in that system. There’s a lot of support as well. I feel it’s very difficult for parents here.

“But if you have family, now you have enough people that can stay at home and support you. But it’s not easy, man,” he said.

M.I contrasted this with life abroad, particularly in the United States, where parents often work long hours and extended family support is limited.

He acknowledged that raising children overseas has its advantages but emphasized that Nigeria provides a stronger cultural foundation, allowing children to understand their roots before gaining international exposure.

Although he is not yet making concrete family plans, M.I stressed that Nigeria’s close-knit culture remains one of its greatest strengths when it comes to raising children.
