Yemi Solade reveals why he quit church for 10 years

Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has revealed why he stopped attending church services more than 10 years ago, explaining that the decision was tied to personal experiences that clashed with his career and inner peace.

Speaking on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Solade said the turning point came in 2013 after a pastor at his then-church instructed him to decline acting jobs scheduled for Sundays.

According to the actor, the directive felt intrusive, as it interfered with his profession and the very source of his livelihood. “Back in 2013, I went to church with my wife, and the pastor told me not to take jobs on Sundays. But that same job is what puts food on my table and allows me to give offerings. That was when I decided to stop,” he recounted.

Since stepping back from organized church life, Solade said he has found stability and greater peace of mind. He dismissed the notion that life falls apart without regular church attendance, stressing that his experience has been the opposite.

“The belief that if you don’t attend church, your life will nosedive—I haven’t seen anything like that. Instead, I have peace and I’m doing well. Before, when I was deeply involved, there were constant interruptions, endless committee meetings, and pressures that drained me,” he explained.

The actor clarified that his decision was not a rejection of faith but a conscious choice to avoid distractions that, in his view, hinder productivity and personal growth. “If you see me in a church now, it’s probably because we’re filming,” he added.
